The Seven Sisters - The Pleiades
The Seven Sisters or the Pleiades star cluster in the Constellation of Taurus.
Looking up at the stars, we remember how many great civilizations developed myths and legends around the very distinctive Seven Sisters Constellation, from the Ancient Greeks to the Aborigines, all the way to the Native Americans and the Mayans.By some, they were regarded as the Seven Mothers fallen from the stars who seeded the Earth.
In the most famous Greek mythology, the Pleiades were the seven daughters of Atlas, a Titan who was condemned to hold up the sky, and the Oceanid nymph Pleione. The sisters were Maia, Electra, Alcyone, Taygeta, Asterope, Celaeno and Merope.
They fascinated both the ancient Greek gods and the mortals alike with their respective unique attributes, strength, beauty and mystical powers.
